JAVIER LOPEZ PASTRANA
Mexican Contemporary Artist
About Javier López Pastrana
Javier López Pastrana, a renowned Mexican artist and painter born in Mexico City in 1956, is known for his innovative style and unique approach to art.
He studied at the "Centro de Investigación y Experimentación Plástica" of the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) in Mexico.
Pastrana is considered a pioneer in the art movement known as "NeoCrotalic Art," which aims to revive and reinterpret traditional design elements from ancient Mesoamerican cultures, such as the Aztecs and Mayans, in a modern way.
NeoCrotalic Art: Reviving Ancient Design
Drawing inspiration from his Mexican heritage and cultural roots, Javier López Pastrana infuses his artworks with elements of Mexican art and aesthetics as a painter. His paintings reflect the rich artistic traditions of Mexico while adding a contemporary twist, making them truly unique and captivating.
The core concept of NeoCrotalic Art is the use of a traditional design called "CANAMAYTE," a quadric-vertex pattern naturally found in the scales of the rattlesnake's skin.
Pastrana and the NeoCrotalic Art movement aim to use this pattern as a rule of proportion in their artwork and apply it in a contemporary manner to create new works of art.
Incorporating Crotalic Composition Elements
With a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of modern art, Javier López Pastrana has gained recognition as a prominent contemporary artist, both in Mexico and internationally.
His paintings are characterized by vibrant colors, bold compositions, and unique perspectives, which have captivated art lovers worldwide. Unlike simply copying old works from ancient cultures, Pastrana's approach is to interpret and incorporate the crotalic composition elements in his own unique ways.
He utilizes both 2D and 3D formats to express his artistic vision, and also employs the "Best Maugard method," a drawing technique based on seven elemental lines, to further enhance his artwork. This method allows him to express different motives, such as anthropomorphic or zoomorphic, and helps him create his own artistic personality with a national accent.
A Unique Mexican Visual Accent
Pastrana's NeoCrotalic Art movement aims to create a distinct Mexican visual accent that sets it apart from the golden composition of the West.
By reviving ancient design elements and incorporating them in a modern way, Pastrana seeks to create new works of art that are visually unique and representative of Mexican culture.
His innovative approach to art has earned him recognition as one of the most prominent contemporary artists in Mexico. His use of mixed media and contemporary techniques in his creations sets him apart from other artists, making him a prominent figure in the art world.
Pushing Artistic Boundaries Considered one of the best contemporary artists in the art world today, Javier López Pastrana is known for his passion for pushing artistic boundaries. His artworks have been featured in prestigious galleries and exhibitions, and he has earned a reputation for his exceptional creativity, technical skill, and artistic vision.
